Let yourself be inspired, where to go for a trip in the surroundings and which attractions are worth visiting. You can start in Svoboda nad Úpou or in nearby Janské Lazne. For nature lovers trips to mountain Snezka, to peatland "Cernohorske raseliniste" and to the Giant Mountains National Park are perfect. On the other hand, Kuks Baroque complex impresses with its beautiful architecture.
The mountain town of Svoboda nad Úpou with a tradition of paper making is located in the district of Trutnov, close to several ski resorts and hiking and cycling trails. It is therefore an ideal starting point for exploring the Giant Mountains. In the town you can visit the Baroque Church of St. John of Nepomuk or go through a section with timbered and classicist houses from 18th to 19th century. Every year celebrations in honor of Emperor Rudolf II, who promoted Svoboda nad Úpou to the city are held in autumn.
The renowned spa town at the foot of Černá hora is focused on the treatment of musculoskeletal and respiratory system, and its center is dominated by the Art Nouveau colonnade. It is one of the best Czech sports centers offering a cabin cableway and a wide range of sports activities. There is a fully equipped ski center, a toboggan run, cross-country trails, cycling trails, climbing center and many others.
The nature reserve in the Giant Mountains is one of the oldest peat bogs of forest origin. There is an educational trail with a lookout tower, offering beautiful panoramic views. The trail starts at the upper station of the cableway and ends at the place of Pardubické Boudy.
The highest Czech mountain Sněžka with its 1603 m asl dominates the Giant Mountains. Its top offers visitors a breathtaking view of the Czech and Polish landscape. There is the Chapel of St. Lawrence, Polská bouda with restaurant and the highest placed Czech post office. On top of Sněžka you can get with a cableway from Pec pod Sněžkou or you can climb on foot along marked tourist route. There are also various walking routes from Sněžka. Noteworthy is also the unique nature.
In the Giant Mountains National Park, visitors can admire unique and diverse nature - different habitats, peat bogs and numerous representatives of the mountain flora. The park offers approximately 700 km of tourist marked trails, including several nature trails. Hiking has a long tradition here, but it is necessary to keep strict nature conservation principles in the park and not to go outside the marked trails.
Not far from Jaroměř, there is located Hospital Kuks - a newly renovated spa complex of buildings with a castle and a mansion. Originally, it was a famous resort in which there were renowned spa and that belong among the social centers of nobles and scholars of the whole of Europe. You can visit the interior of the Kuks Hospital, including the former hospital hall, the Holy Trinity Church, the sacristy, the Baroque Pharmacy U granátového jablka and the Czech Pharmaceutical Museum.
